Laura's Blog

Laura Chenault writes about art and her life in Southern New Jersey. She enjoys exploring and hanging out at home with her husband and two cats.

Rearranging Interiors

So I've already missed two days in my post daily goal. C'est la vie. This week has been a bit unproductive. I did get a client's project in on deadline yesterday and sorted some location photos for a director that I've been working with. But that's about it.

Beachcombing

Bolinas Beachcoming

Instead of bringing stuff home from the beach, I decided just to take pictures of some of the rocks and shells. I'm stuck inside working today, but I would love to go chuck my shoes off again soon.

Old Work

Untitled mixed media by Laura Chenault

This mixed media on canvas pieces is probably circa 1987 and is in the private collection of Walter Fielder.

It was one of five. The other four are scattered about.

Exploring: Bolinas

Exploring Bolinas, CA

Bolinas is the quintissential Northern California coastal town. It's the point where the San Francisco Bay meets the Pacific Ocean and it's beautiful! It's a hippie enclave surrounded by water and beautiful views.

Red Threads of Fire

APOD Spircules Jets on the Sun by K Reardon

I look at a lot of pictures and read a lot of blogs.

This week I noticed that I had three very different images up that all spoke to an internal, visceral place inside.

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July!

In the mid seventies, my family lived in Campinas, Brasil. Being an American kid in a foreign country I was very "rah, rah America" and worshiped all things American. During the summer of '76 we came back to the States to visit family and our trip coincided with the bicentennial. For me, it was like the entire country was celebrating and I was 100% in. For years, well into college, I saved every '76 quarter I found. That summer we visited my Aunt's and Uncle's house in farm country, Illinois. Their small town was super friendly and very close knit.

Getting Personal

So I generally keep my personal drama off my Facebook, Twitter and this blog. This summer that is going to change and I'm going to share a bit more of my life - the good and the bad. My goal is to put myself out there.

That said, this is difficult to write.

Self Portrait as the Vagina Dentata

This acrylic lift image is made from nine 8.5 x 11 laser copies.

This new(ish) work and many more will be shown this Saturday, March 3, 2012 at an all day Open House and Art Sale.

Sneak Peak

This image is part of a new series I've been working on.

Christchurch Quake Series by Wittner Fabrice

I've always been atracted to lightpainting and I used to have this famous image of Pablo Picasso hanging in my studio.
