New American Gothic

American Gothic by Taylor Marie McCormick

Last week's "Weekend Inspiration" collection from Phlearn featured this beautiful photo that I can't get enough of.

Deer

I seem to be collecting a bunch of random images lately. Here are three photographs of human-deer hybrids that I find beautiful, plus a bonus.

A Visual Compendium of Cameras

A Visual Compendium of Cameras Poster by Pop Chart Lab

There are a lot of great photo products out there and a seemingly equal number of blogs that showcase stuff to buy. I don't usually share products, but this poster by Pop Chart Lab is an exception. They are offering this beautiful poster of 100 cameras. A mini history of the tools of the trade. And it's a steal at $22.

Weird Faces Study by Matthias Dörfelt

Weird Faces Study by mokafolio

I am fully engrossed with the Weird Faces Study by mokafolio, also known as Matthias Dörfelt.

New Sketchbooks

Pages for New Sketchbooks by Laura Chenault

I fill up my sketchbooks quickly. Fill isn't quite the correct word because I regularly go back and add to my older books. I started a new journal in January, and it's already bursting at the seams. This time, I decided to make a few at a time, so what you are looking at are folded pages for three new journals!

Two Old Trees

Two Old Trees by Laura Chenault

I was mesmerized by these two old trees in Pt. Richmond. Shooting with a 50mm manual lens and the shortest focal length. The splits in the bark resemble an open spread in a book to me.

Selections from the Turconi Collection

Clip #21726: Des Kindes bester Freund (unid.)

I have been following the blog, 50 Watts for years because of Will Schofield’s dedication to showcasing beautiful historical books, design and illustration from around the world. A visual journey, his blog is well worth the visit.

Inspiration: Fay Helfer

Snail Do (Detail) by Fay Helfer

I discovered Fay Helfer via one of my favorite blogs, Street Anatomy. Pyrography – the practice of wood burning – is a long time camp favorite. I remember trying it a few years ago and had results that were mediocre at best (and I broke the tip of the tool - sorry, Ken!). Fay Helfer combines elegant pyrography with colored pencil and pastel on wood to create organic and anatomical images.

A Universe in My Hands

This morning surrealist mountains covered in pine trees greeted me at the bottom of my coffee cup.

Mail Art

Art cards

I got two beautiful postcards in my mailbox last week. On the left is James Luckett's recent art for the Postcard Collective. On the right is an invitation from Rayko for the opening of David Wolf's opening. I think they work well together.
