Darkroom Progress!

So we've lived in our cute El Cerrito apartment for over four years. One of the biggest draws for me was a laundry room large enough to use as a darkroom as well. Fast forward to today and I still am not set up for printing although I have done some film processing. Today our landlord replaced our washing machine. It was leaking down into the electrician's office below us and his complaint was heard and responded to quickly.

I cleared out all the stuff cluttering the room and scrubbed the floors, walls and cabinets. The best news is that the new washer is slightly smaller than the last washer and it looks like they will fit side by side giving me a lot more open space. The measurements looked good and the hook up was easy since I just watched the landlord hook it up. Our washer empties into a sink, so it's not set in stone where it needs to sit. So I unplugged it and rearranged it and it seems like it should work well except the hoses are all too short.

One step forward, one step back. I'll have to see if I can get longer hoses or extensions and try again. I had to shove it all back to it's original spot and rehook it up since I have to get some laundry done after two weeks of no working machine. In the meantime I'll be hanging darkroom cloth over the windows that was donated by my friend Carrie and mount the safe light and timer to the wall. Both the light and timer were donated by my friend Anita! With my Freecycle trays, I may have finally replaced most of my missing darkroom box.
