Exploring Treasure Island

Karakuri by Matthew Allard

Karakuri (Japanese Automata) is a stunning three and a half minute documentary by Matthew Allard. The film features artisan Hideki Higashino creating these traditional moving figures using historical methods. These creations started as far back as 200 - 300 years ago, Japan's Edo period. The cinematography is beautiful as are the karakuri and this short only leaves me wanting more.

Exploring Twin Peaks

I mentioned the story I did for The Outsider about the installation of the giant pink triangle on the top of Twin Peaks. I had to take a few beauty shots of San Francisco as Frank the fog begins his retreat.

NOISE by Mr. Kaplin

Noise is a motion capture video featuring a dance of sorts between black and white noise. The human based skeletal structures support light spheres that create a figure that feels powerful yet light.

These images are from Antonia Basler's Poster series. I find her work quirky and engaging, whimsical and feminine with a clean, almost commercial, esthetic. I think my favorite is the image of the bullets converted into little planters.

Exploring the Bay by Sailboat

I went sailing on the bay! Another fun outing with First Exposures! My Uncle Dave has a sail boat, but I haven't been on it since in high school. Also this was my first time ever being on the bay in a boat that wasn't a ferry. We sailed past the Golden Gate Bridge and then around Alcatraz in a two hour tour.
