Exploring POPOS: 555 Mission Street

I found out about San Francisco's POPOS (Privately Owned Public Open Spaces) last spring and have been visiting them religiously! The city requires public space to be created in certain large downtown spaces. In addition the Public Art initiatives require 1% of a buildings construction cost to be used for public art. I love that and am determined to visit them all! Sometimes I'm only armed with my cell phone camera, but shoot what you've got has always been my motto. These cell phone shots are from 555 Mission St. There are lots of benches, table seating, cool glass tiles, and climbing wall vines.

I love the three giant heads: “Moonrise Sculptures: March, October and December” by Ugo Rondinone. They are aluminum, but almost look like fresh, wet clay.

I only got this reflected shot of the other sculpture in this plaza, a tower of bitmapped, rainbow figures standing on each other's heads: “Human Sculptures” by Jonathan Borofsky
