Inspired by Seung-Hwan OH

I'm entranced by the images created by Seung-Hwan OH in his Impermanence series. Aptly named, he shoots medium format, positive film and then soaks them with a variety of microbes. The microbes eat away at the emulsion, leaving eddies of color that mostly obfuscate the subjects. The bits that remain, still create an impression of the subject, but also evoke satellite maps, hand-marbled paper, and galexies.

On his web site, the artist has this to say about the series:

‘Impermanence’ is about an idea that all the matter including all the life forms collapse in our spatial-temporal dimension we belong to. The conceptual idea was inspired by the second law of thermodynamics.
