Inspiration: Wiliam Kentridge

William Kentridge inspired me when I went to see Five Themes at the SFMOMA.

Kentridge is a filmmaker, printmaker, collage, sculpture, and installation artist. He even works in opera. I wasn't familiar with his work and wasn't prepared for the wide range of themes and sheer amount of work presented. Personal reflections on politics and society that remained consistent through the various mediums.

There were large scale collage and etchings such as Drawing for II Sole 24 Ore (World Walking).

Automatic Writings is a stop motion movie that is drawn, erased and redrawn on a single sheets of paper. To me the layers of drawings evoke day dreams and a suspension of the normal progression of time.

Shadow puppets star in Shadow Procession.

What Will Come (Has Already Come) is an anamorphic circular projection that is reflected in a center mirrored post.

The miniaturized theaters with animatronic puppets, hand drawn curtains combined with projected hand drawn movies were my absolute favorite and I hope to see them in person again.
